The Obidient Movement has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against any attempt to interfere in the 2027 general elections following his declaration that he would lead President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Media and Communications Directorate, the movement urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the forthcoming elections are free, fair and credible.
The group said Wike’s announcement had raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, stressing that no politician or political party had the right to determine election outcomes before voters cast their ballots.
It argued that coordinating a political campaign did not give Wike control over voters or authority over the electoral process.
“Rivers State belongs to its people. The Federal Capital Territory belongs to the Nigerian people,” the movement stated, insisting that citizens alone had the constitutional right to choose their leaders through credible elections.
The group challenged Wike and other supporters of Tinubu to campaign on the President’s record and allow Nigerians to decide whether he deserves another term in office.
It also called on INEC and security agencies to demonstrate impartiality and respond to concerns about possible electoral malpractice.
