President Bola Tinubu has charged former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, and other women leaders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intensify grassroots mobilisation and secure widespread support from women ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu gave the directive on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he acknowledged the significant role women play in political organisation and electoral participation.

The President urged Edu, who heads the campaign council’s Women Mobilisation Directorate, alongside other party women leaders, to use their influence within families and communities to strengthen the party’s campaign structures nationwide.

He emphasised the importance of reaching voters beyond major rallies, encouraging sustained engagement at the grassroots level as the APC prepares for the next presidential election.

Edu’s directorate has reportedly set a target of securing 40 million women’s votes for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027. The mobilisation plan is designed to cover the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, extending through local government areas, wards and communities.

The strategy also focuses on engaging women in markets, rural communities, professional associations and other grassroots groups to communicate the administration’s policies and campaign message.

The directive comes amid growing preparations by political parties for the 2027 elections, with women’s participation expected to remain a major factor in campaign strategies.

Edu and other APC women leaders are now expected to strengthen their networks and coordinate outreach efforts as the party seeks to consolidate support ahead of the polls.
