Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has called on residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, arguing that the Federal Government’s economic reforms are beginning to yield positive results.

The governor made the appeal on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, during a visit to the palace of the Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Zaiki Anselm Aidenojie II, in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Okpebholo was accompanied by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the visit, where he highlighted projects being undertaken by his administration and urged residents not to place the state in opposition to the Federal Government.

According to the governor, cooperation with the Tinubu administration has contributed to ongoing development efforts in Edo State.

Okpebholo Highlights Development Projects

Speaking on his administration’s performance, Okpebholo listed road construction, improvements to primary healthcare centres, school development and the regular payment of workers’ salaries among the areas receiving attention.

He acknowledged that infrastructure projects require time before their full benefits become visible, adding that completed and ongoing road projects would improve transportation and stimulate economic activities across the state.

The governor also addressed Edo’s electricity challenges, revealing that a 100-megawatt power plant is expected to become operational in Edo South, alongside another project projected to contribute an additional 16 megawatts.

He said the initiatives were part of efforts to improve electricity supply and support economic growth.

Governor Credits Tinubu for Progress

Okpebholo attributed the progress he highlighted to support from the Federal Government, insisting that continued cooperation between the state and the centre would benefit residents.

He urged the people of Edo not to position the state against Tinubu’s administration, arguing that doing so could undermine the progress he believes is being achieved.

The governor’s appeal comes as political parties and their supporters intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Traditional Ruler Commends Governor

Earlier, the Ojuromi of Uromi, Aidenojie II, speaking on behalf of the Esan traditional rulers, commended Okpebholo for his efforts to accelerate development in the state.

The monarch also offered prayers for the governor, expressing confidence in his leadership and wishing him success in office.

Okpebholo’s latest appeal forms part of the APC’s growing mobilisation efforts ahead of the next presidential election, with the party seeking to consolidate its support across Edo State.
