An All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter has stirred controversy online after claiming that Nigeria could collapse if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to win re-election in 2027.

The supporter made the remarks in a viral video while appealing to Nigerians, particularly young people and parents, to support Tinubu’s bid to remain in office beyond his current term.

According to him, the president is laying the foundation for a prosperous Nigeria and deserves another opportunity to continue his administration’s plans.

“If Mr President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not elected to return, there will not be Nigeria. Nigeria will collapse,” he said.

The supporter argued that the country needed a strong foundation capable of delivering prosperity and progress for future generations. He credited Tinubu with attempting to establish such a foundation and urged Nigerians to support the president’s efforts.

He said the administration’s policies were intended to create a better future for the country’s children and grandchildren, insisting that continuity in leadership was necessary to achieve that goal.

The APC supporter also criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who are prominent opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He described the opposition politicians as “looters” and questioned their records in public office, but did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegations made against them.

He further accused them of having interests that could undermine Nigeria’s economic future, urging voters to consider their past records before making political decisions.

The remarks reflect the increasingly heated political atmosphere as parties and their supporters intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.

Calls for Tinubu’s re-election

The supporter concluded by urging Nigerians to vote for Tinubu, repeating his warning that the country’s future could be at risk if the president failed to return to office.

His comments have drawn attention to the strength of political loyalty among some supporters, as well as the increasingly forceful language being used in discussions about the next presidential election.

However, the claim that Nigeria would collapse if Tinubu lost the election remains the supporter’s personal political opinion, rather than an established fact. Nigeria’s political future will depend on a range of factors, including governance, economic performance, security and the strength of its democratic institutions.

With the 2027 election approaching, statements of this nature are likely to fuel further debate about the competing visions being presented to Nigerians and the importance of issue-based political campaigns.
