Popular Nigerian visual storyteller and technology and finance content creator, Fisayo Fosudo, has called on traditional media organisations to adapt to changing audience preferences by embracing digital storytelling formats such as short videos, reels, carousels and vlogs.
Fosudo made the call during an interview on Thursday at Moonshot 2026, a technology and innovation conference organised by TechCabal at the National Theatre in Lagos.
He argued that established media organisations could strengthen their relevance in the digital age by combining their credibility, experience and established brands with the creative approaches used by social media content creators.
According to him, the rapid growth of digital platforms has created new opportunities for news organisations to reach audiences who increasingly consume information through social media rather than relying solely on traditional channels.
Short videos, reels key to attracting younger audiences
Fosudo identified short-form videos, Instagram Reels, carousels and vlogs as some of the formats traditional media organisations should incorporate into their content strategies.
He explained that these formats could help media houses present information in ways that appeal to younger audiences and people who are more accustomed to consuming digital content.
The content creator noted that technological advancements had made content production and distribution more accessible, reducing some of the barriers that previously limited participation in the media industry.
He encouraged established organisations to take advantage of these developments rather than remain restricted to conventional approaches to storytelling and news delivery.
Traditional media and content creators can learn from each other
Fosudo also cautioned against viewing traditional media and digital content creation as competing sectors in which one must replace the other.
Drawing on his experience in media innovation, he said both sides had valuable knowledge and skills that could benefit the wider industry.
While traditional media organisations possess established reputations, editorial experience and audience trust, independent content creators often have a better understanding of emerging formats and changing social media habits.
He believes collaboration between the two sectors could encourage innovation, improve storytelling and create new ways of reaching audiences.
Such partnerships, he suggested, could help media organisations remain competitive while preserving the strengths that have sustained them over the years.
Fosudo highlights importance of Moonshot conference
Speaking about Moonshot 2026, Fosudo described the event as an important platform for discussions on Nigeria’s technology industry, infrastructure, innovation and future development.
He said the gathering provided an opportunity for forward-thinking individuals and industry stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore solutions to challenges affecting the country.
The conference brought together entrepreneurs, technology companies, investors, content creators and other professionals to discuss business growth, innovation and opportunities across Africa.
Fosudo’s comments highlight the growing need for media organisations to evolve alongside technological changes and audience expectations.
As competition for attention intensifies across digital platforms, media houses that combine credible journalism with engaging and accessible storytelling formats may be better positioned to attract younger audiences and maintain their relevance.
