The founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has stirred controversy after warning people against provoking him, claiming that anyone he curses becomes useless for the rest of their life.
The Port Harcourt-based cleric made the remarks while addressing his congregation, boasting about what he described as the power of his prayers against people who trouble or challenge him.
“Anyone who wants to trouble me, when I curse you, you are finished. Check all the social media, all the people I have cursed, whether anyone is existing,” Ibiyeomie said.
The pastor further claimed that his prayers could affect people regardless of their social status, including those occupying political positions.
“I know what to pray that the person will be useless for life, even those that are in political powers, when I pray against them, that’s the end,” he added.
His comments have attracted attention on social media, with Nigerians debating the language religious leaders use when addressing critics and the influence of spiritual authority on their followers.
Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), subsequently challenged the pastor to identify the people he claimed to have cursed.
VDM accused the cleric of making unsubstantiated claims and questioned whether religious leaders should make statements that could create fear among their followers.
The activist also challenged Ibiyeomie to direct the alleged curse at him, insisting that the pastor should name those he claimed had suffered the consequences of his prayers.
The exchange has reignited discussions about religious accountability, freedom to criticise influential figures and the responsibility of church leaders to communicate carefully with their congregations.
While some social media users have questioned Ibiyeomie’s remarks, others have argued that religious disagreements should be approached with restraint and respect.
Ibiyeomie is the founder and presiding pastor of Salvation Ministries, headquartered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The claims about the alleged consequences of the pastor’s curses have not been independently established.
