The All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to maintain a strong political presence in Borno State, with party leaders attributing its dominance to grassroots mobilisation, internal cohesion and the confidence of voters in its leadership.
The party has remained a major political force in the state despite the security challenges that have affected communities and disrupted political activities over the years.
APC leaders and supporters have pointed to the party’s organisational structure and extensive grassroots network as key factors behind its continued electoral strength.
They also attributed the party’s position to the influence of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and other prominent APC leaders, whose administration they said had maintained the confidence of residents through its focus on reconstruction, development and improving living conditions.
The party’s supporters said its strength was not based solely on political structures but also on its ability to remain connected to communities across the state.
According to them, the APC has consistently worked to maintain contact with residents through ward and local government structures, allowing the party to mobilise support even in difficult circumstances.
The party’s dominance has also been linked to its ability to retain influential political figures and attract new members, while opposition parties have struggled to build equally strong structures across the state.
APC stakeholders have continued to emphasise unity within the party, arguing that internal cooperation has helped it maintain an advantage during elections.
They also cited the party’s performance in previous elections as evidence of its strong support base, noting that the APC has continued to win major electoral contests in the state.
Beyond electoral politics, supporters said the party’s appeal has been strengthened by government projects in areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and reconstruction of communities affected by insecurity.
They argued that these initiatives have helped strengthen the relationship between the government, the party and residents.
However, political observers have noted that maintaining the APC’s dominance will require the party to address emerging challenges, sustain internal unity and respond to the expectations of a younger population and other groups seeking greater political participation.
As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the APC is expected to rely heavily on its established grassroots structure and political network as it seeks to retain its influence in Borno.
Party leaders remain confident that continued mobilisation, unity and attention to development issues will enable the APC to preserve its position as the state’s dominant political force.
