Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived in Anambra State for a one-day official visit featuring the empowerment of 5,000 residents, the launch of a food security programme and the commissioning of projects at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
The visit, scheduled for Thursday, September 10, marks Mrs Tinubu’s first official visit to Anambra since assuming the position of First Lady.
One of the major activities on her itinerary is the flag-off of the Progressives United Against Poverty Initiative at Ekwueme Square in Awka. The programme, led by the Anambra State First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo, is expected to support 5,000 beneficiaries across the state’s 21 local government areas.
Beneficiaries are expected to receive business support, vocational tools and equipment covering areas such as agriculture and agro-processing, beauty care and other small-scale enterprises.
Mrs Tinubu will also launch the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East at the Iteze Centre, Old Government House, Amawbia.
The initiative, under the Renewed Hope Initiative, is aimed at strengthening food security and providing support to vulnerable households. It will include food assistance, nutrition education and agricultural support, with particular attention to groups such as widows, elderly people, persons with disabilities, nursing mothers and young children.
Another key part of the visit is the commissioning of an Information and Communication Technology Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
The facility is designed to provide students with access to training in areas including software development, data analysis, digital marketing, coding, innovation and other digital skills needed for the changing world of work.
Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Law Mefor, said the visit would strengthen cooperation between the Federal and state governments in tackling poverty, food insecurity and youth unemployment.
He said the various programmes would complement existing efforts by the Chukwuma Soludo administration in education, healthcare, youth skills development and innovation.
The First Lady’s visit is expected to bring together federal and state officials, beneficiaries and other stakeholders as Anambra hosts the series of empowerment, food security and development activities.
