The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly issued a fresh invitation to former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, over an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct.

The former governor is expected to appear before investigators in connection with allegations involving the management of state funds during his administration.

The latest summons comes after Sylva reportedly failed to honour an earlier invitation from the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC had previously requested that the former governor appear before its investigators to provide clarification on issues arising from the investigation. However, he was said to have been unavailable to meet with the commission at the time.

The new invitation is part of the agency’s efforts to obtain further information and documents that could assist its investigation.

Sylva, who served as Bayelsa State governor from 2007 to 2012, has previously faced allegations relating to the handling of public funds. He has consistently denied wrongdoing in connection with such allegations.

The EFCC has continued to investigate alleged financial crimes involving former public officials as part of its mandate to trace public funds, establish financial accountability and prosecute individuals where sufficient evidence exists.

The commission is expected to question Sylva on the specific transactions and financial activities under investigation when he appears before its operatives.

As of the time of reporting, it was unclear whether the former governor had confirmed a date for his appearance before the commission.

The investigation remains ongoing, and any decision on possible prosecution will depend on the outcome of the EFCC’s findings.
