Bauchi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Ibrahim Ladan Duguri, Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency (BASHCMA), and four of his children in a fatal road accident.
The crash occurred on Saturday evening at Yalwan Duguri in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, leaving the family devastated.
The children who lost their lives were identified as Hajara, Usman, Rukayya and Maryam. Another son, Suleiman, reportedly survived the accident.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow over the incident in a condolence statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
The governor described Duguri’s death as a significant loss to the state, particularly its health sector, where he said the deceased had made valuable contributions to improving access to healthcare services.
According to Mohammed, Duguri played an important role in strengthening the state’s health contributory management system, especially in efforts to make healthcare more accessible to disadvantaged residents.
He also recalled Duguri’s service as a member of the state’s medical team during pilgrimage exercises in Saudi Arabia, where he contributed to the welfare of pilgrims.
Beyond his public service, the governor disclosed that Duguri was his close friend and classmate, making the tragedy a deeply personal loss.
Mohammed expressed particular anguish over the deaths of the four children alongside their father, describing the incident as heartbreaking and extending his condolences to the bereaved family, the Duguri Emirate Council and the people of Bauchi State.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked residents to support the surviving family members with prayers and compassion during the difficult period.
