A Nigerian pastor in Abia State has appealed to the government, philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to help his son secure his admission to study Medicine and Surgery, warning that financial hardship could destroy the teenager’s dream of becoming a doctor.
Rev. Enyinnaya Nwabuko said his son, Marvelous Nwabuko, had secured provisional admission to Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, but the family was struggling to raise nearly ₦500,000 for acceptance and other initial charges within the stipulated two-week payment period.
“I don’t want my son to lose his admission because of poverty. That is why I am crying out for help,” he said.
Marvelous scored 330 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), earning another chance to pursue his ambition of becoming a medical doctor.
His achievement came after an earlier attempt in 2025, when he scored 340 but could not secure admission because he was underage.
The teenager also recorded three A1s and six B3s in his Senior School Certificate Examination, earning nine credits in one sitting.
Despite these accomplishments, the family’s financial situation threatens to stand between him and his long-held ambition.
Rev. Nwabuko, a father of three who ministers in a rural community in Abia State, said he had approached several people for assistance but had received promises without the necessary financial support.
He explained that the expenses would extend beyond the immediate admission charges, with additional money needed for school fees, books and upkeep.
According to the report, another ₦500,000 would be required for books and living expenses, further increasing the financial burden on the family.
Marvelous hopes to specialize in cardiology in the future. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his admission, he expressed faith that he would eventually fulfil his dream.
“I have faith in God that my dream will come true,” he said.
The family is now appealing to the Abia State Government, corporate organizations, philanthropists and members of the public to intervene before the payment deadline expires.
For the young scholar, timely assistance could make the difference between pursuing a medical career and losing an opportunity he has worked hard to earn.
