A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has expressed confidence that the opposition knows how to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu made the declaration during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, October 14, saying opposition figures were working behind the scenes to challenge the President’s re-election bid.
The publisher of Ovation International declined to reveal the opposition’s strategy, insisting that its plans would not be made public ahead of the election.
He recalled Tinubu’s political struggle to secure a second term as governor of Lagos State, arguing that opposition figures were now working towards a similar challenge at the national level.
Momodu said the ADC was determined to prevent Tinubu from returning to the Presidency for another four years.
The opposition chieftain also questioned the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that Tinubu had appointed too many people from the South-West to the electoral body.
He claimed that many Nigerians, including some supporters of the President, doubted whether the administration would ensure a free and fair election in 2027.
Momodu further alleged that fear had weakened the willingness of some governors, lawmakers and judges to challenge the President, claiming that certain political figures who publicly support Tinubu privately hope he loses the election.
Despite these concerns, he expressed confidence that the determination of ordinary Nigerians would play a decisive role in the outcome of the presidential contest.
His remarks come as opposition parties intensify preparations, alliances and political consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are expected to face a fresh electoral challenge from opposition figures seeking to consolidate their support and present an alternative to the current administration.
