Prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have intensified efforts to resolve internal disagreements and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reconciliation push gained momentum following a meeting involving former Oyo State First Lady and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Florence Ajimobi; former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin; Senator Abdulfatai Buhari; and former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
Barrister Akeem Agbaje also participated in the discussions, which focused on rebuilding unity, addressing grievances and ensuring that different interests within the party are accommodated.
The engagement comes amid lingering dissatisfaction among some APC members over the party’s governorship primary and other nomination processes ahead of the next general elections.
APC Leaders Urged to Put Differences Aside
Sources familiar with the meeting said participants stressed the need to prioritise the party’s collective interests over personal ambitions and disagreements.
They reportedly agreed that improved cooperation among influential leaders and grassroots stakeholders would strengthen the APC’s political structure and improve its chances of winning elections across Oyo State.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of sustained consultations and inclusive decision-making to prevent aggrieved members from becoming alienated.
Reconciliation Efforts Gather Momentum
The latest meeting forms part of wider efforts to resolve divisions within the Oyo APC following disputes surrounding the selection of candidates for the 2027 elections.
Folarin, who coordinates the APC’s presidential campaign efforts in Oyo State, has been involved in initiatives to unite party stakeholders behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and the party’s other candidates.
Adelabu had previously expressed concerns about the transparency of the party’s nomination process before announcing that he would not pursue further internal appeals or legal action over the dispute at that time. He called for a credible reconciliation process to address the concerns of dissatisfied members.
The involvement of influential figures in the latest engagement signals a renewed attempt to bring competing camps together.
Party Seeks Stronger Position Ahead of 2027
The APC is seeking to consolidate its support base in Oyo State as it prepares to challenge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming elections.
Party stakeholders believe that resolving internal disputes, rebuilding trust and ensuring that members feel represented will be essential to achieving that objective.
However, the success of the reconciliation initiative will depend on whether the discussions produce concrete steps to address outstanding grievances and secure lasting cooperation among party members.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the APC faces increasing pressure to turn its calls for unity into a coordinated political strategy across the state.
