Businessman and social media personality Afolabi Michael Kazeem, popularly known as KC Luxury, was brought to the Federal High Court in Lagos in an ambulance on Friday as his lawyer renewed efforts to secure his release for specialised medical treatment.

The defendant reportedly remained inside the ambulance receiving oxygen and could not be moved into the courtroom because of his health condition.

A nurse from the Police Hospital in Falomo, Lagos, Bukki Yahya, told the court that Kazeem was admitted on October 7 and diagnosed with asthma and sepsis. A correctional officer had earlier informed the court that he was critically ill.

Following the medical testimony, Justice Musa Kakaki directed that Kazeem be returned to the hospital.

His lawyer, Chief Emefo Etudo, subsequently pursued a fresh bail application seeking his release to obtain specialist treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

The defence argued that Kazeem’s condition had deteriorated and alleged that he suffered a lung collapse. Counsel also told the court that the Police Hospital had referred him to LUTH because it lacked the facilities required for the necessary surgery.

However, prosecution counsel, Abu Ibrahim, opposed the application, arguing that the medical evidence presented did not sufficiently justify granting bail. He maintained that the court had previously considered the defendant’s health concerns and urged the judge to reject the fresh request.

The prosecution also described Kazeem as a potential flight risk, asking the court to impose strict conditions if bail was granted.

In response, the defence maintained that Kazeem’s condition warranted his release on medical grounds. Etudo assured the court that his client would attend future proceedings and noted that his international passport was already in the custody of the authorities.

Justice Kakaki adjourned the ruling on the medical bail application until October 28, 2026.

Kazeem is standing trial alongside Boniface Freeman Ochoche Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo Patriarch over alleged cocaine trafficking and money laundering. The charges involve the alleged attempted export of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine to the United Kingdom.

The defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The allegations remain before the court.
