Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor Mukhtar Shehu Shagari has urged Nigerians in the North to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election, citing infrastructure development and ongoing government reforms.
Shagari made the appeal while congratulating Tinubu, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other party stakeholders following the successful flag-off of the party’s presidential campaign in Kaduna State on Saturday.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Musa Ubandawaki, the former deputy governor described the event as evidence of the party’s organisational strength and determination to mobilise support ahead of the next presidential election.
He also commended the Federal Government for infrastructure investments, particularly the Kaduna–Abuja dual carriageway, which he said would improve transportation, facilitate trade and strengthen economic activities.
According to Shagari, improved road networks would benefit farmers, small-scale traders, transport operators and other businesses by making it easier to move people and goods.
He expressed confidence that a second term for Tinubu would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing projects, sustain reforms and pursue further development initiatives.
However, Shagari stressed that political support must be accompanied by effective governance, transparency and accountability. He urged the Federal Government to sustain its infrastructure drive while giving greater attention to security, economic stability, job creation and social protection.
He noted that Nigerians expected government policies to translate into tangible improvements in their daily lives, adding that the impact of ongoing reforms would be crucial in shaping public opinion ahead of the election.
The former minister also commended Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as his administration’s efforts in infrastructure development, social welfare and human capital development.
Shagari’s appeal comes amid growing political mobilisation across Northern Nigeria as the APC and other political groups begin preparing for the 2027 general election.
