The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has condemned the alleged attack on popular comedian and entertainer Osagie Idieda, widely known as MC Porcupine, calling on security agencies to arrest and prosecute everyone responsible for the incident.
The opposition party also demanded an investigation into individuals suspected of sponsoring or financing the attack, warning that political disagreements must not be allowed to degenerate into violence.
MC Porcupine was reportedly attacked by suspected hoodlums while returning from an event in Benin City on Friday, October 23, 2026. The Edo State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
Edo PDP Condemns Attack
In a statement dated October 25, the Edo PDP chairman, Nosa M. Ogieva-Okunbor, described the incident as unacceptable and said no Nigerian should face violence or intimidation because of their opinions or perceived political affiliations.
The party maintained that freedom of expression was a fundamental democratic right and insisted that political disagreements should be resolved through dialogue rather than physical attacks.
It also warned against the alleged use of thugs to intimidate individuals whose political views differ from those of people in positions of authority.
According to the PDP, political contests should focus on ideas, policies and governance rather than violence and threats against perceived opponents.
Party Calls for Arrest of Alleged Sponsors
The opposition party urged the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Edo State Command, and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation.
It called for the identification, arrest and prosecution of those who allegedly carried out the attack, as well as anyone found to have planned, financed or sponsored it.
The PDP further demanded adequate protection for MC Porcupine, his family and other residents who might be vulnerable to politically motivated violence.
While acknowledging the police announcement that an investigation had commenced, the party stressed that the process must lead to tangible results and accountability.
Police Begin Investigation
The Edo State Police Command has said it is investigating the reported assault. The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, reportedly ordered a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved.
The police also condemned unlawful attacks and appealed to anyone with useful information to assist the investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, including whether it was politically motivated and who may have been responsible, remain matters for investigation.
The PDP wished MC Porcupine a speedy recovery and urged political leaders, party supporters and residents to reject violence and promote peaceful coexistence across Edo State.
