The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to make the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections available online, following concerns from Nigerians and other stakeholders over public access to the document.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, the commission said the register would be accessible through its dedicated online platform, allowing more Nigerians to inspect voters’ details beyond the physical display conducted at registration areas nationwide.
The physical display exercise took place between October 9 and 15, 2026, in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026. It was designed to enable registered voters to verify their particulars and raise objections or request corrections where necessary.
INEC said the decision to publish the register online was prompted by concerns about the need to make the document more accessible to the public.
According to the commission, the additional measure is intended to strengthen transparency, improve accessibility and build public confidence in the electoral process.
How Nigerians Can Check the Register
Registered voters can access the preliminary register through INEC’s online portal at https://display.inecnigeria.org.
The platform allows users to inspect the register associated with their polling units and check whether their details have been accurately captured.
The commission is also continuing to process claims and objections arising from the verification exercise before certifying and publishing the final register of voters.
INEC has scheduled the publication of the final register for December 15, 2026.
The preliminary register is an important stage in election preparation because it provides an opportunity to identify omissions, incorrect personal details and questionable entries before the final list is certified.
The commission reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and the implementation of the Electoral Act as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
The development comes amid growing public interest in the credibility of the voters’ register, a key component of the electoral process.
