The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) that it is frustrating the opposition party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections by obstructing access to campaign venues and billboard spaces.

The NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, made the allegation during an interview on ARISE Television, claiming that the party had repeatedly encountered difficulties securing venues for its political activities despite making payments.

Director said the party had attempted to secure four different venues, but each arrangement allegedly ran into difficulties. He claimed that the latest venue was cancelled after the party announced its plans publicly, with those involved reportedly asking it to collect a refund.

He insisted that the NDC would not be intimidated or prevented from exercising its democratic rights, adding that the party remained determined to continue its political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NDC spokesman also alleged that the party was facing difficulties securing billboard spaces for its campaign activities. He maintained that no individual or political party had the right to prevent others from participating in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Reacting to the claims, an APC official, who spoke anonymously, dismissed the allegations as baseless and questioned the absence of specific details identifying the states or government ministries allegedly responsible for the restrictions.

The official challenged the NDC to clarify where the alleged incidents occurred and which authorities were involved, arguing that the accusations lacked sufficient information.

The exchange comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties raising concerns about access to campaign spaces, billboard regulations and the conditions under which political parties can organize public events.

The allegations have not been independently established, and the parties’ opposing accounts leave questions about the reported venue cancellations and billboard restrictions unresolved.

As preparations for the elections continue, the dispute has renewed attention on the importance of fair access to public spaces and equal opportunities for political parties to communicate with voters.
