Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has expressed disappointment over Nigeria’s level of development, saying his experiences travelling abroad have made him realise how far the country still has to go.
The rapper made the remarks during an interview on The Zeze Millz Show, where he reflected on life in Nigeria, the country’s challenges and his plans for retirement.
Although he described Nigeria as a difficult place to live in, Blaqbonez acknowledged the energy, creativity and determination of Nigerians, particularly their ability to keep pushing despite economic and social challenges.
‘Nigeria Is Hectic, But It Is Still Home’
Blaqbonez said travelling to other countries had changed his perspective on Nigeria’s development and the standard of living available to citizens.
“Nigeria is hectic, but it is still home. When you go to other countries, you will realise how far we are from where we should be,” he said.
The rapper added that despite the difficulties, Nigeria retained a unique atmosphere and a strong culture of hard work.
He said he wished the country could improve in areas that would make life easier for its citizens, suggesting that the determination of Nigerians should be matched by better conditions and opportunities.
Blaqbonez Says He Does Not Want to Retire in Nigeria
The Haba crooner also disclosed that he did not see himself spending the rest of his life in Nigeria.
He explained that his idea of retirement involved living on a large ranch, raising animals and enjoying a quieter lifestyle away from the demands of his music career.
According to the rapper, he does not associate that particular retirement dream with the lifestyle he believes he could achieve in Nigeria.
His comments reflected his personal aspirations rather than an announcement that he was permanently relocating abroad.
His Remarks Renew Debate About Life in Nigeria
Blaqbonez’s comments touch on a familiar conversation among Nigerians about infrastructure, living standards, economic opportunities and the attraction of living abroad.
While many Nigerians continue to build careers and businesses at home, others seek opportunities overseas in pursuit of improved living conditions and long-term security.
The rapper’s remarks also highlight the contrast between his appreciation for Nigeria’s vibrant culture and his concerns about the country’s development.
Despite his criticism, he acknowledged the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerians, describing these qualities as important parts of what makes the country distinctive.
