Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has reignited the debate over polygamy after declaring that marrying multiple wives is not a sin, arguing that several prominent figures in the Bible had more than one wife.

The actor shared his views on social media while reacting to the recent announcement by US-based pastor Israel Ford, who publicly introduced his second wife, Shakayla Ford, to his congregation.

Yul, who has openly defended polygamy since announcing his marriage to actress Judy Austin in 2022, maintained that the practice has biblical backing.

‘God Never Had Issues With Them’

In his post, the actor argued that the Bible contains examples of men who had multiple wives without being condemned by God.

“POLYGAMY IS NOT A SIN. Even in the Bible, many great men there had many wives and God never had issues with them. He was even willing to give them more,” he wrote.

He further suggested that some men are naturally inclined towards having multiple wives but choose monogamy because they fear criticism or do not fully understand themselves.

According to Yul, some men may be living against what he believes is their natural inclination because of society’s expectations.

He also expressed agreement with Pastor Ford’s position on the subject, describing it as consistent with his own beliefs.

US Pastor’s Second Marriage Sparks Debate

The discussion gained renewed attention after Pastor Israel Ford of LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, announced his marriage to Shakayla Ford on October 25.

The pastor introduced her as his second wife in the presence of his first wife, Prophetess Lydia Ford.

Ford also challenged the belief that a man should have only one wife, arguing that such a restriction was not supported by his interpretation of the Bible.

His announcement generated reactions online, with some people supporting his position while others questioned the religious justification for polygamy.

Yul’s Marital Choices Remain a Subject of Public Discussion

Yul has remained a prominent figure in debates about polygamy since publicly announcing his marriage to Judy Austin in April 2022 while still married to his first wife, May Edochie.

The announcement triggered widespread public reactions and contributed to the breakdown of his first marriage.

His latest comments have once again drawn attention to differing views on marriage, faith, personal choice and societal expectations.

While some people consider polygamy acceptable on cultural or religious grounds, others maintain that monogamy should remain the preferred marital arrangement. The debate continues to generate strong opinions across social media.
