Trump Casts Doubt on US Midterm Elections, Says He Will Accept Results Only If They Are ‘Honest’

US President Donald Trump has raised fresh concerns over the credibility of the country’s upcoming midterm elections, saying he would respect the outcome only if the process was conducted honestly.

Trump made the remarks on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, while speaking to reporters before travelling to Texas for a campaign rally. He was asked whether he would accept the results if his Republican Party lost control of Congress.

“I will, if they’re honest elections,” the president replied.

The comments came days before Americans head to the polls on November 3 to elect members of Congress, with control of the House of Representatives and the Senate at stake.

Trump’s statement has drawn attention amid growing disputes between his administration and state authorities over the management and integrity of elections.

His administration has intensified legal actions involving election procedures in several states, raising questions about the extent of federal authority over state-run elections.

On Monday, the US Department of Justice threatened legal action against Washington state over voter registration records involving approximately 400 people whom the department alleges are not American citizens.

The administration has also pursued legal challenges relating to voter registration and election procedures in other states.

Trump has repeatedly raised allegations of electoral fraud in previous election cycles, particularly following his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Those claims have faced extensive legal scrutiny and have not been substantiated as evidence of widespread fraud sufficient to change the outcome.

The president also addressed the possibility of working with Democrats if Republicans lose their congressional majority, saying his administration would find a way to cooperate while pointing to his presidential veto power.

The November 3 elections will determine the balance of power in Congress and could shape the direction of Trump’s legislative agenda for the remainder of his presidency.

With the election approaching, attention remains focused on whether the competing parties will accept the results and how any legal disputes arising from the vote will be resolved.
