The Dredgers Association of Nigeria (DAN) has distanced itself from reports accusing Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ekundayo Alebiosu, of allegedly harassing, intimidating and extorting dredgers and tipper operators.
The association said the publication containing the allegations did not originate from its national leadership or any authorised organ of the organisation.
In a disclaimer signed by its National President, Batare Akpomejero, and National Secretary, Richard Ntan, DAN stated that it neither authorised nor issued any petition or press statement accusing Alebiosu or other officials of misconduct.
The association also denied having any record of the reported seizure of trucks and an alleged demand for ₦500,000, insisting that it had no involvement in the claims.
Reaffirming its relationship with the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, DAN described its engagement with the administration and the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development as cordial and collaborative.
The association further explained that issues concerning dredging regulations and the interpretation of Supreme Court judgments on shoreline authority were being addressed through established institutional channels and dialogue with relevant federal and state authorities.
It urged members of the public, the state government and other stakeholders to disregard the publication as an official statement representing its position.
DAN also expressed regret over any embarrassment or reputational damage the report might have caused the government, the commissioner and other officials mentioned.
The association reiterated its commitment to promoting lawful and sustainable dredging operations across Nigeria, stressing the importance of constructive engagement with government authorities and industry stakeholders.
