Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, has celebrated a new set of graduates, with 371 students earning First-Class honours out of the 1,843 students who completed their studies during the 2025/2026 academic session.

The figures were announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, during the institution’s 21st convocation ceremony, which featured the conferment of first and higher degrees and the presentation of prizes to outstanding graduates.

The graduating class comprised 1,655 undergraduates and 188 postgraduate students, reflecting the university’s latest batch of students completing their academic programmes.

A breakdown of the results showed that 371 graduates obtained First-Class honours, while 926 finished with Second-Class Upper degrees. Another 345 students earned Second-Class Lower honours, while 13 graduated with Third-Class degrees.

One of the major highlights of the ceremony was the outstanding performance of Miss Etta Queendolin, from the Department of Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering, who emerged as the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.99.

The Vice-Chancellor described the achievement of the graduating students as a reflection of their determination, the commitment of the university’s academic staff and the institution’s continued emphasis on academic excellence.

Anake also reaffirmed the university’s ambition to produce graduates capable of competing effectively in the labour market, establishing businesses, creating employment and contributing to research and societal development.

Speaking at the ceremony, the university’s Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo, challenged the graduates to focus on solving problems rather than merely seeking recognition.

Oyedepo urged them to identify their purpose, develop their abilities and apply their knowledge to addressing the challenges facing society.

He stressed that the existence of problems should be seen as an opportunity for innovation, encouraging the graduates to take the initiative instead of waiting for others to provide solutions.

The university’s Pro-Chancellor, Mrs Faith Oyedepo, also congratulated the graduands and encouraged them to continue learning, improve their skills and prepare themselves for emerging opportunities.

She urged them to develop solutions capable of improving lives and transforming communities, while encouraging them to begin making an impact locally with the knowledge and resources available to them.

She further advised the graduates to uphold truth and integrity in their personal and professional lives.

The convocation marks another milestone for Covenant University as hundreds of its graduates enter the next stage of their lives, whether in employment, entrepreneurship, further education or research.

With 371 students graduating with First-Class honours and Etta Queendolin recording a CGPA of 4.99, the ceremony placed a spotlight on academic achievement and the importance of translating educational success into meaningful contributions to society.
