Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has opened up about the challenges that contributed to the collapse of her marriage, admitting that she regrets choosing love over financial stability.
The actress made the revelation during an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, where she reflected on her experience with her former husband, actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole.
Jegede explained that she contributed more financially to their marriage, shouldering a significant portion of the family’s responsibilities while navigating difficulties in the relationship.
According to her, her former husband, who is eight years older than her, began interpreting some of her remarks as disrespectful after they got married, despite her having communicated in a similar manner before their union.
She recalled how casual comments that had previously been part of their interactions became a source of disagreement after the wedding, leaving her questioning the change in their relationship.
The actress said the issue of disrespect was not the only factor behind the breakdown of the marriage, stressing that the financial imbalance was a major concern.
Reflecting on her experience, Jegede said she had been responsible for much of the family’s financial needs and was now raising their son without the level of support she had hoped for.
She expressed the emotional and financial difficulties of caring for her child largely on her own, suggesting that choosing a financially secure partner might have been a better decision.
Jegede and Fawole’s marriage ended in 2019, barely a year after they tied the knot. The former couple share a son.
Her latest comments have reignited conversations about love, financial responsibility and compatibility in marriage, with many people debating the importance of financial stability alongside emotional connection when choosing a life partner.
