A wedding celebration in Kano State reportedly turned tragic after a 34-year-old man allegedly opened fire on guests over the loud music being played at the ceremony, killing one person and injuring three others.
The incident occurred during a marriage ceremony in the state, according to the Kano State Police Command. The suspect, identified as Rabiu Mukthar, was reportedly arrested following the shooting.
Police arrest suspect
Kano State Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the incident, saying the suspect allegedly came out of his residence while the wedding celebration was taking place and fired repeatedly at people attending the event.
Police said Mukthar allegedly used a pump-action firearm during the attack.
Following a distress call, officers reportedly moved to the area and arrested Mukthar along with another person. The firearm allegedly used in the incident was also recovered.
Suspect reportedly complained about the music
Preliminary police accounts indicate that the suspect was allegedly angered by the volume of the music at the wedding.
Mukthar reportedly told investigators that the organisers had not consulted him before holding the musical event and that the noise disturbed his sleep.
Police said the suspect is currently being held alongside the other arrested individual at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) while investigations continue.
