The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed 14 additional cases of Lassa fever, bringing renewed attention to the ongoing disease situation across the country.

Lassa fever is an acute viral illness that can spread to humans through contact with food or household items contaminated by infected rodents. Transmission can also occur through contact with the blood, urine, faeces and other bodily fluids of an infected person.
The health agency has repeatedly urged Nigerians to maintain good hygiene, keep food and household items protected from rodents, and avoid contact with bodily fluids from people suspected of having the infection.
Members of the public are also advised to seek medical attention promptly when symptoms associated with Lassa fever develop, particularly during periods of increased transmission.
The NCDC continues to work with state health authorities and other partners to strengthen surveillance, testing, case management and other measures aimed at containing the disease.
