Applications are open for the 2027–2028 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Arizona State University (ASU) in the United States, offering fully funded opportunities to eligible students from Africa.

The programme is designed to support academically talented young people who face financial or other barriers to accessing higher education. It combines financial assistance with academic support, leadership development and opportunities for scholars to contribute to positive change in their communities.

Selected scholars receive comprehensive financial support covering the major costs associated with their studies. The scholarship package can include tuition, accommodation, meals, books and supplies, health insurance, travel and other approved educational expenses.

The programme is intended for students seeking eligible undergraduate or graduate study at Arizona State University. Applicants must meet both the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program requirements and the admission requirements for their chosen ASU programme.

Candidates are generally expected to demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership potential, community involvement and a commitment to creating positive social and economic change.

The scholarship particularly seeks students who have experienced significant barriers to education, including financial hardship or displacement, and who have demonstrated the potential to use their education to contribute to their communities and wider society.

Successful applicants will also become part of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars community, giving them access to mentorship, leadership development and other forms of support throughout their academic journey.

Prospective applicants are advised to carefully review the eligibility requirements, available programmes and application procedures before submitting their applications. The scholarship is highly competitive, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee selection.

The Mastercard Foundation has supported access to higher education and opportunities for young people across Africa through partnerships with universities and other institutions.
