Titi Abubakar, wife of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has urged Nigerian youths to support her husband in the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that his performance in office would make Nigerians want him to remain for a second term.
Titi made the statement on Thursday at the ADC All Support Groups Town Hall Meeting in Abuja, where she called on young Nigerians to take an active role in determining the country’s political future.
She said although Atiku had pledged to serve only one term if elected president, his achievements during his first four years would persuade Nigerians to ask him to continue in office.
According to her, Atiku could also use his first term to prepare his deputy for eventual succession.
Titi described Atiku as an experienced politician and philanthropist who, she said, would not need to learn the responsibilities of governance after assuming office.
She maintained that her husband was seeking the presidency to improve the lives of Nigerians rather than for personal enrichment, adding that he had the experience required to lead the country.
Titi also highlighted Atiku’s plans for youths and women, recalling his pledge to allocate 40 per cent of government appointments to the two groups if elected.
She urged young Nigerians to become actively involved in the ADC campaign, particularly in grassroots mobilisation and the protection of votes at polling units.
The former vice president’s wife also warned voters against accepting money from politicians in exchange for their votes. She acknowledged that the ADC might not have the financial resources to compete with politicians who engage in vote-buying but urged youths not to sacrifice their votes for temporary financial benefits.
Titi further criticised the current state of governance and the economy, alleging that the rule of law had been weakened and that Nigerians were struggling with worsening economic conditions.
She said an Atiku administration would seek to reverse what she described as the country’s deteriorating situation and restore confidence in governance.
The town hall meeting, held under the theme “Together We Can Build the Nigeria We Desire,” focused on grassroots mobilisation, polling-unit coordination, vote protection and greater participation of youths, women and support groups ahead of the 2027 election.
