Kelechi Iheanacho has strengthened his case for a return to the Super Eagles after extending his remarkable scoring streak for Bursaspor to seven consecutive league matches.
The Nigerian striker was on target again on Sunday as Bursaspor played out a 2-2 draw against Esenler Erokspor in the Turkish 1. Lig.
Iheanacho opened the scoring in the 16th minute, continuing a remarkable run that has seen him find the net in every league appearance he has made this season.
The 29-year-old has now scored nine goals in seven league appearances, while also registering two assists. His 11 goal involvements have made him one of the most productive players in the division at the start of the campaign.
His latest performance could present Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle with a difficult decision ahead of the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
Iheanacho has not featured for the Super Eagles since helping Nigeria win the 2025 Unity Cup, leaving him outside the national team setup despite his impressive club form.
His current run has become even more significant with Victor Osimhen reportedly set to miss the September international fixtures, while Paul Onuachu has faced criticism in Turkey over his recent goalscoring form.
Iheanacho appeared to have secured a late winner for Bursaspor when he scored again in the 88th minute, but the effort was disallowed for offside after a VAR review.
Despite the disallowed goal, his earlier strike was enough to extend his scoring streak and further underline his consistency in front of goal.
Iheanacho has scored against Bodrum FK, Iğdır FK, Fatih Karagümrük, Kayserispor, İstanbulspor, Manisa FK and Esenler Erokspor this season.
With Chelle preparing to name his squad for the forthcoming qualifiers, Iheanacho’s outstanding club form could make it increasingly difficult to overlook the experienced forward.
