Four people have died in a fatal road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The accident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, near Straight Gate School in Ipara Remo, along the Ibadan-Lagos route.
According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), eight people were involved in the crash. Four male adults died, one man sustained injuries, while three others escaped unhurt.
The crash involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter truck, with registration number FGE 753 XA, and an ash-coloured HOWO truck, registered T-695 KT.
Preliminary findings by the FRSC indicated that speeding and improper overtaking were major factors in the accident.
The Mitsubishi driver was reportedly travelling at high speed when he attempted to overtake and subsequently collided with the moving HOWO truck. The FRSC also identified driver fatigue as a contributing factor.
The FRSC rescue team received the distress call at 4:33 a.m. and arrived at the scene six minutes later, at 4:39 a.m.
The injured victim was taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment, while the bodies of the four deceased victims were deposited at the FOS Mortuary in Ipara.
The two vehicles involved were handed over to the Police Motor Traffic Division, Isara, for further investigation.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists to avoid speeding, fatigue and dangerous overtaking, particularly during early-morning journeys.
He also advised motorists travelling long distances to get adequate rest before setting out and to overtake only when it is safe and permitted.
