The Katsina State Police Command has presented cheques worth more than N28 million to the families of 25 police officers who died while serving the country.
The cheques, totalling N28,012,584.70, were presented on Tuesday by the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, at the command’s headquarters in Katsina.
The financial assistance is part of a welfare initiative introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
While presenting the cheques, Fage expressed condolences to the bereaved families and described the deceased officers as dedicated personnel whose service and sacrifices would not be forgotten.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly, particularly to address immediate needs and support their families’ future.
The commissioner also praised the Inspector-General for prioritising the welfare of serving officers and the families of personnel who died in service.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alkasim Salisu thanked the Inspector-General and the Katsina Commissioner of Police for the financial support and assured the command that the money would be used judiciously.
The Katsina Police Command said the gesture further demonstrated its commitment to supporting the families of officers who lost their lives while carrying out their duties.
