Nigerian civil servants have renewed their call on the Federal Government to urgently address the delay in implementing the 40 per cent peculiar allowance and settling outstanding promotion arrears.
The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Trade Union Side, made the appeal in a letter to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele.
According to the workers’ council, the Federal Government has already settled two months of outstanding wage awards, following discussions with its leadership in August. However, the implementation of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance remains unresolved.
The council said the allowance was covered by a circular issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, with implementation expected to take effect from May 1, 2026.
The workers also called for the payment of outstanding promotion arrears for batches seven and nine, which they said were still pending in the payment process.
While appreciating the government for responding to its earlier demands, the council urged the Finance Minister to ensure that the remaining issues are resolved without further administrative delays.
The workers warned that continued delays could increase dissatisfaction and restiveness among public servants.
The council therefore appealed to the government to act promptly and resolve the outstanding payments before the situation escalates, stressing the importance of addressing the concerns without waiting for another ultimatum.
