Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has questioned why citizens continue to celebrate political leaders despite the challenges many Nigerians face.
The entertainer, also known as Area Fada, raised the issue in a video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, where he called for greater accountability from those in government.
Charly Boy pointed to issues including poor roads, unreliable electricity and rising food prices, arguing that basic services have increasingly come to be viewed as privileges rather than things citizens should reasonably expect.
He also questioned how the prices of essential goods could rise dramatically without citizens demanding explanations from those responsible for managing the country’s affairs.
The entertainer further criticised what he described as Nigerians’ tendency to normalise difficult conditions while political leaders continue to receive public support during campaigns.
His comments centred on the relationship between citizens and those in positions of authority, particularly the need for Nigerians to demand accountability over issues affecting their daily lives.
Charly Boy’s remarks have added to ongoing public conversations about governance, the cost of living and citizens’ expectations of political leadership in Nigeria.
