Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the country’s current challenges did not begin with the present administration.
Anuku made the remarks during an appearance on The Honest Bunch* podcast, where he defended Tinubu’s leadership and urged Nigerians to allow the President more time to implement his policies.
According to the actor, Tinubu inherited several problems and should not be held solely responsible for the difficulties currently facing the country.
“Nigeria has to be patient for the renewed hope of this man, Tinubu, and the country was not spoiled by him. There were people there before him,” Anuku said.
He questioned why previous administrations were not being held equally accountable for the problems that had accumulated over the years.
The actor further maintained that Nigerians were becoming impatient for quick results, insisting that the President should be given an opportunity to address the challenges he inherited.
Anuku also expressed support for Tinubu completing his tenure, suggesting that replacing him would not necessarily guarantee a better leader.
He said he was not being paid to defend the President, adding that he personally remained supportive of Tinubu and his administration.
“No one pays me. How many people can be better than him? Most people who are going to come, maybe after, they’re even worse off. So the devil you know is better than the angel you don’t,” he said.
The actor’s comments have since generated reactions on social media, with some Nigerians supporting his call for patience while others criticised his defence of the administration.
Away from politics, Anuku also spoke about some of the difficult experiences he has faced, including the death of the mother of his children and what he described as betrayal by some friends.
He said the loss affected him deeply but added that his faith had helped him regain peace and strength.
Anuku’s comments come amid continued public debate over the performance of the Tinubu administration and growing political attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.
