The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has extended its ₦66-per-litre petrol discount promotion and expanded the offer to include diesel, giving motorists and businesses another opportunity to save on fuel purchases.

The national oil company announced the extension on Friday, October 9, 2026, following the initial promotion introduced to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

Under the original arrangement, the discount was scheduled to run from October 1 to October 7. The extension initially announced by the company gave customers an additional week, with the promotion expected to run until October 14 at participating NNPC retail outlets.

NNPC also encouraged customers to take advantage of the offer through its Fuel App, noting that applicable terms and conditions would apply.

Diesel Added to the Discount Offer

The extension means that Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, is now included alongside Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol.

The inclusion of diesel could provide some relief to businesses and transport operators that depend on diesel-powered vehicles, generators and equipment.

Customers were advised to check the promotion’s requirements and participating outlets before making purchases.

The discount comes amid rising fuel prices and concerns about the impact of higher energy costs on transportation, business operations and household expenses.

NNPC Clarifies Duration of Relief

In a subsequent statement issued on October 9, NNPC announced that the ₦66-per-litre petrol discount would continue nationwide at its retail outlets until October 31, 2026.

The company stressed that the initiative was intended to provide temporary relief to consumers and should not be interpreted as a return to the petrol subsidy regime.

NNPC explained that the discount applies to its retail outlets and does not establish a uniform pump price across Nigeria or change the market-based pricing system for petroleum products.

The company said it would continue working with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to ease the impact of elevated global crude oil prices on Nigerians.

Motorists and other customers are advised to confirm the applicable discount and terms at participating NNPC stations.
