The Kano State Government has temporarily shut down nine private schools for failing to comply with regulatory requirements for the revalidation and recertification of their operations.

The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB), Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, disclosed this during a media briefing in Kano on Monday.

He said the affected institutions would remain closed for seven days, beginning October 12, 2026, following their failure to regularise their registration despite repeated notices from the board.

The affected schools are Zayyad Academy, Success International Schools, Sunshine International School, Perfect Schools, Al-Fa’iq International College, Mainasara International School, Shubla Academy, Darul Mu’uminat Comprehensive School and Hanan International School.

Umar revealed that the board had identified 111 schools allegedly operating in violation of established regulatory procedures, warning that any school that reopened without official authorisation would face legal action.

He explained that the enforcement exercise was intended to strengthen oversight of private educational institutions, improve regulatory compliance and ensure that schools maintained the required educational standards.

The executive secretary also cautioned school proprietors against increasing tuition fees without approval from the appropriate authorities.

He further warned against compelling parents to purchase uniforms, books and sandals exclusively from schools when such items were available in the open market.

Umar also urged school administrators to establish properly registered Parent-Teacher Associations, follow approved curricula and avoid expelling pupils without informing their parents.

He called on private school proprietors to renew their operating licences for the 2026/2027 academic session, noting that the previous certificates expired on July 31, 2026.

The board reiterated its commitment to enforcing regulations across private schools in the state, with the aim of improving educational standards and protecting the interests of pupils and parents.
