The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against underestimating the political influence of Northern voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks in a statement reportedly shared on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, where he questioned how supporters campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election intended to convince residents of several Northern states to support the ruling party.

The states he mentioned include Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa.

According to the PRP chairman, some supporters of the President appear to believe that distributing money to voters could secure their support despite growing dissatisfaction with the administration.

He argued that such an approach would not necessarily make voters forget what he described as the humiliation and neglect experienced under Tinubu’s government.

Baba-Ahmed maintained that Northern Nigerians were determined to protect their dignity and exercise their democratic rights, insisting that financial inducements would not automatically determine their choices at the ballot box.

He also cautioned against any attempt to manipulate election results, stressing that the outcome of the 2027 polls must reflect the genuine wishes of the electorate.

The PRP leader challenged supporters of Tinubu and the APC to prepare for the coming electoral contest, signalling that opposition forces were ready to challenge the ruling party.

His comments come as political parties and prominent political figures intensify their activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with questions surrounding economic hardship, governance, voter confidence and regional political alignments expected to feature prominently in the contest.
