Otedola made the disclosure on Monday, 19 October 2026, after hosting a dinner in honour of Hamzat, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
In a post on his X account, the businessman described Hamzat as a man of integrity, recalling how their friendship began long before they became prominent figures in business and public service.
He praised the deputy governor’s character, saying his experience of Hamzat over the years had been defined by honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.

The dinner was attended by other influential Nigerian business leaders, including Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Dangote Group, and Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of BUA Group.
Hamzat is seeking to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027 after emerging as the APC’s governorship candidate.
Otedola’s remarks highlight the decades-long personal connection between the businessman and the Lagos deputy governor as political activities gather momentum ahead of the next election.
Although Otedola referred to Hamzat as the “incoming Governor of Lagos State”, the governorship election is yet to take place.
