Two companies have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), asking the anti-graft agency to investigate Jordan Nyesom-Wike, son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over an alleged $2.1 million land transaction in Abuja.
The petitioners, Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited, accused Jordan of alleged fraud, obtaining money under false pretences, criminal misappropriation and conversion. However, the allegations remain disputed, and Jordan has denied receiving the money.
The companies’ lawyer, Ibrahim Waru, disclosed the development while speaking to journalists in Abuja, expressing concern that although the EFCC had acknowledged receipt of the petition, the claimants were yet to see action on their request.
Waru explained that the petition was intended to draw the commission’s attention to the alleged criminal aspects of the transaction, which is already the subject of a civil case before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the lawyer, his clients submitted supporting materials, including correspondence and WhatsApp exchanges, which they said could help investigators establish what transpired.
How the alleged $2.1m transaction unfolded
In their account, the claimants alleged that Garba first met Jordan in London, where they developed a relationship before discussing a proposed property transaction in Abuja.
They claimed that Jordan offered to facilitate the acquisition of land in the Katampe and Guzape districts of the FCT, allegedly assuring them that he could help secure 30 hectares in each location.
According to the petition, Jordan allegedly represented that he had his father’s knowledge and approval for the proposed arrangement. The claimants further alleged that he placed a telephone call to the FCT minister in their presence in connection with the transaction.
The petitioners alleged that $2 million was requested as a facilitation fee for the proposed land allocations, while an additional $100,000 was described as Jordan’s personal fee.
They claimed the combined sum of $2.1 million was paid in cash on September 26, 2025, at a residence in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
The claimants identified Adamu Sani and Aliyu Sarki as witnesses to the alleged payment, while alleging that Jordan was accompanied by an associate, Onor Sandy.
They further alleged that the land allocations were expected to be delivered within one month. However, according to their account, the promised allocations did not materialise, and attempts to contact Jordan later proved unsuccessful.
The petitioners said they subsequently sought the intervention of the EFCC, requesting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment and the recovery of the money.
Wike’s son denies receiving the money
Jordan has rejected the allegations in the civil suit, insisting that he did not receive the money and was not in Nigeria on the date the claimants said the payment was made.
During court proceedings, he presented his American passport to support his account that he had travelled outside the country during the relevant period.
He also denied knowing one of the individuals alleged to have accompanied him during the transaction and disputed the signature on a document the claimants said linked him to the deal, describing it as forged.
The court has not made a final determination on the disputed claims.
The civil case, filed by the two claimants, is focused on recovering the $2.1 million they allege was paid in connection with the proposed land transaction.
Court fixes December date for further hearing
Justice Silvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has adjourned further proceedings in the case until December 1, 2026.
The claimants have also asked the Chief Judge of the court to reassign the matter, citing concerns about an alleged relationship between the presiding judge and the FCT minister’s family. The allegation is a claim by the petitioners and does not, by itself, establish wrongdoing by the judge.
Meanwhile, the EFCC petition seeks an independent investigation into the allegations, with the claimants asking the commission to question Jordan and consider prosecution if evidence establishes criminal liability.
The dispute has attracted public attention because of the amount involved and the relationship between the defendant and the FCT minister. However, the allegations against Jordan remain contested and have yet to be established by a court.
