Kylian Mbappé delivered a decisive performance as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2–1 at Camp Nou on Sunday, 25 October 2026, ending the Catalan club’s perfect start to the La Liga season.
The French forward scored twice to secure a crucial victory for José Mourinho’s side, handing Barcelona their first league defeat of the campaign after winning their opening nine matches.
Barcelona had looked to extend that impressive run, but Mbappé’s clinical finishing proved the difference in a fiercely contested El Clásico.
Mbappé broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when a clearance by Barcelona defender Gerard Martín struck the forward and deflected into the net. Barcelona responded in the 61st minute, with Raphinha finishing from close range after a pass from Pedri to level the contest at 1–1.
With the match heading towards a draw, Real Madrid struck again in the 87th minute. Eduardo Camavinga led a counter-attacking move and supplied Mbappé, who finished from close range to claim his second goal and seal the victory.
The result marked Mbappé’s 100th goal for Real Madrid since joining the Spanish giants in 2024, adding further significance to his match-winning display.
The victory also strengthened Madrid’s position in the title race. Barcelona remained top of the standings with 27 points from 10 matches, while Atlético Madrid occupied second place and Real Madrid sat third with 24 points, just three behind their fierce rivals.
For Mourinho, the win provided a major boost as he seeks to restore Madrid’s dominance in Spanish football. Barcelona, meanwhile, will need to respond after suffering consecutive defeats across all competitions.
