Popular Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has threatened legal action against a Canada-based pastor, Tayo Kumuyi, over allegations linking her to the death of fellow gospel minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings.
Alabi, through her lawyers, has given the preacher 24 hours to withdraw the allegations, delete the disputed social media posts and issue a public apology, warning that failure to comply could result in a lawsuit.
The ultimatum was contained in a cease-and-desist letter dated October 24, 2026, issued by Oakmount Legal Practitioners on behalf of the gospel singer.
Pastor Accused of Making Serious Allegations
According to the letter, Kumuyi, who operates the Facebook page Pastor Tayo Ministries, allegedly published a series of posts between October 20 and 24 accusing Alabi of murder and ritual killing and linking her to the deaths of Toluwanisings and other gospel ministers.
Alabi’s lawyers described the allegations as false and defamatory, insisting that no police investigation, official finding or court ruling had established any connection between the singer and the deaths.
The legal team also maintained that Alabi had mourned Toluwanisings following his death and had no involvement in his passing.
The lawyers accused the preacher of exploiting public grief to damage their client’s reputation, career and gospel ministry.
Lawyers Demand Retraction and Public Apology
Among the demands listed in the letter, Kumuyi was instructed to remove the disputed publications, stop further allegations and refrain from making statements the lawyers considered threatening or harassing.
The legal team also requested an unreserved public apology and retraction on the same Facebook page, with the apology to remain pinned for 14 consecutive days.
The preacher was further asked to provide evidence supporting any allegations he intended to maintain and clarify whether he had reported the claims to the police.
The lawyers warned that failure to meet the demands within the stipulated period could lead to court proceedings seeking an injunction, damages and legal costs. They also said complaints could be made to Meta Platforms and relevant law enforcement agencies.
Lawyers Raise Concern Over Alleged Threatening Post
The letter also referred to a subsequent post allegedly directed at Alabi, which stated: “Tope Alabi, no letter will save you from my hand. Your only option is leaving your hiding place.”
The singer’s lawyers described the statement as threatening and said it suggested that the alleged attacks could continue despite the legal warning.
They argued that presenting accusations as spiritual revelations did not automatically exempt their publisher from potential legal responsibility.
However, the claims and the alleged threat remain allegations set out by Alabi’s legal representatives; no court determination on the dispute has been reported.
Toluwanisings’ Death Sparks Controversy
Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on October 14, 2026, aged 41. His death prompted widespread mourning among gospel music fans and fellow ministers.
Reports following his death focused on accounts that he collapsed and was taken to multiple hospitals while efforts were made to obtain medical attention. His family has not publicly established an official cause of death in the reports reviewed.
Alabi’s legal threat has added another dimension to the controversy, with the singer seeking the withdrawal of claims she says have unfairly linked her to the tragedy.
As of the latest reports reviewed, a lawsuit had not been confirmed as filed, and no public response from Kumuyi had been reported.
