Four people, including a commercial bus driver, have died while 13 others sustained critical injuries after a truck rammed into a fully loaded commercial bus on Alaro City Bridge in Epe, Lagos State.

The fatal collision occurred on Wednesday morning as the two vehicles were crossing the single-lane bridge towards the T-Junction area, trapping several occupants in the wreckage.

According to preliminary accounts, the truck struck the commercial bus with such force that rescuers had to work to free victims trapped inside the damaged vehicles.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the deaths and injuries, adding that the truck driver also suffered severe injuries. Both his legs were reportedly severed after becoming trapped in the wreckage.

Following the crash, LASTMA operatives worked alongside personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to rescue victims and evacuate those affected.

The four deceased victims were taken to a mortuary, while the Lagos State Ambulance Service transported the 13 injured passengers to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.

Security personnel from the Epe Police Division also supported the rescue operation and helped secure the scene.

The identities of the deceased and injured victims had not been officially released at the time of reporting.

The accident has renewed concerns about road safety, particularly on narrow bridges and busy routes used by commercial vehicles. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and observe traffic regulations to reduce the risk of similar tragedies.

Investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
