Fresh controversy has emerged over the burial arrangements for late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, as members of his family insist that he must not be laid to rest in a cemetery.

A representative of the singer’s paternal family reportedly issued the warning in a video circulating on social media, declaring that the family would exhume his remains if he were buried in a cemetery against their wishes.

According to the representative, the family had agreed that the late singer should be brought back to his ancestral home in Oyo State and buried beside his late mother’s grave at their father’s compound.

“We have all decided in the family that Toluwanisings must not be buried in the cemetery. For this reason, they should bring him back home,” the representative said.

He further insisted that the family would not accept any alternative burial arrangement, warning that they would remove the singer’s remains if he were buried in a cemetery.

The latest development adds to the growing disagreement among the singer’s relatives over where he should be buried, with his final resting place becoming a major source of contention following his death.

The dispute has also involved differing preferences between the singer’s paternal relatives and his widow, Elizabeth Akanbi, over the appropriate burial location.

While members of the paternal family have advocated for a burial at the singer’s residence in Ibadan or beside his late mother in Ikirun, Osun State, his widow has reportedly expressed a preference for a cemetery or church-owned burial ground.

Beyond the disagreement over the burial location, members of the singer’s paternal family have called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death before any final burial arrangements are made.

Toluwanisings reportedly died after collapsing at his residence in Ibadan on October 14, 2026. His death has since generated public discussions, conflicting accounts and calls for a transparent investigation.

The family’s latest warning underscores the deepening disagreement over how the late gospel minister should be laid to rest, with the circumstances surrounding his death and the burial arrangements continuing to attract public attention.

As of the latest reports, the dispute over his final resting place remains unresolved.
