The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is set to honour 755 distinguished professionals and leaders from the banking industry, government, the private sector and academia at its 2026 Fellowship Investiture scheduled for Saturday, 31 October, in Lagos.

The ceremony will recognise individuals for their contributions to banking, economic development, professional excellence and the promotion of ethical standards.

Among the prominent personalities expected to receive honours are businesswoman and Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil Limited, Folorunsho Alakija; Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Thompson Oludare Sunday; and Chairman of Dangote Cement Plc, Emmanuel Ikazoboh.

Others include Lagos State Deputy Chief of Staff, Sam Egube; Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Ibrahim Stevens; Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku; and Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi.

The list also features Afolabi Olorode, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Quest Merchant Bank, and Siraju Salisu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Summit Bank Limited.

18 Receive Honorary Fellowships

According to the institute, the 755 awardees will be recognized under three categories.

Eighteen distinguished individuals will receive honorary fellowships, while 460 Associates will be elevated to elected Fellows of the institute.

Another 277 senior management staff of banks and members of the academic community will be inducted as Honorary Senior Members.

Other prominent figures named among the honourees include Chairman of Keystone Bank, Ada Chukwudozie; Chairman of Jaiz Bank, Mohammed Mustapha Bintube; Executive Director of Zenith Bank, Akin Ogunranti; and Chairman of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Segun Ogunsanya.

The list also includes Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, founding partner of Future Africa, and Faith Tuedor-Matthews, Chief Executive Officer of TEKLA Factoring and Finance.

The institute said the awards were intended to recognize meritorious service, professional achievements and commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in banking and related fields.

Bank Recapitalization Takes Centre Stage

A major highlight of the investiture will be a keynote address by Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Tayo Aduloju.

His address, titled “Bank Recapitalization: Leveraging New Bank Capital for Nigeria’s Industrial Transformation,” will examine how stronger banking capital can support industrial growth and broader economic development.

The theme comes as Nigerian banks adjust to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapitalization requirements, which are designed to strengthen financial institutions and improve their capacity to support businesses and the wider economy.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning Doris Uzoka-Anite are expected to attend as special guests of honour.

Bello Maccido, Chief Executive Officer of Crosse Pointe Capital and Advisory, will chair the event, while CIBN President and Chairman of Council, Dele Alabi, will serve as chief host.

Ceremony to Attract Banking and Business Leaders

The investiture will take place at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, and is expected to attract senior banking executives, policymakers, government officials, academics, members of the diplomatic community and other industry stakeholders.

The annual ceremony reflects CIBN’s efforts to promote professionalism, ethical conduct and leadership within Nigeria’s financial services sector.

With 755 individuals scheduled to receive recognition, the 2026 edition is expected to bring together influential figures whose work spans banking, public administration, business and academia.
