Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has paid a visit to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja, amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), disclosed the meeting on Wednesday through a post on his official X account, describing the encounter with Aisha as “warm and deeply appreciated”.

Photographs shared from the meeting showed Aisha Buhari accompanied by one of her daughters and other associates during the visit.

Neither Aisha nor Atiku disclosed the specific reason for the meeting or details of the discussions held between them. However, Atiku used the occasion to highlight the economic pressures facing households across Nigeria.

The former Vice-President said many families were struggling with the increasing cost of essential goods and services, including food, transportation, education and healthcare.

According to Atiku, the situation places an urgent responsibility on those seeking to lead the country to prioritise the welfare, dignity and future of Nigerians.

He said Nigerians deserved an economy capable of rewarding hard work, creating opportunities and allowing families to live with dignity and hope.

Atiku added that addressing the economic difficulties confronting citizens would require collective efforts to reduce the pressure on households and restore confidence in the country’s future.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, although there has been no official indication that Aisha Buhari’s visit was connected to any political arrangement or endorsement.

Aisha is the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, while Atiku is seeking the presidency under the ADC in the 2027 election.
