Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has ruled out withdrawing from the 2027 presidential race in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other political party, insisting that the ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) remains in the contest.

Kwankwaso, the running mate to former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on the NDC ticket, made the position known in a statement on Sunday amid growing disagreements between opposition camps over plans to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He accused the ADC Presidential Campaign Council of spreading claims that his political platform was working for President Bola Tinubu’s party or might eventually withdraw from the race.

“We will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party,” Kwankwaso declared.

He also rejected allegations that the NDC ticket was acting on behalf of the APC, insisting that the party had its own political ambitions and was committed to contesting the election.

Kwankwaso criticized the ADC campaign team for allegedly focusing on attacks against him, Obi and the NDC rather than presenting its own candidate and policies to Nigerians.

Kwankwaso Questions ADC’s Claim to Opposition Leadership

The former Kano governor also challenged the ADC’s claim to being a credible alternative to the ruling party, arguing that it had not demonstrated why Nigerians should consider it a better option.

“The APC-led government has failed Nigerians. The ADC offers no better alternative,” he said.

Kwankwaso maintained that the NDC ticket had the credibility, capacity and nationwide support required to unite Nigerians and address major national challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, education, agriculture, infrastructure and healthcare.

He urged supporters and other Nigerians who wanted political change to remain committed to the party’s ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Opposition Rivalry Intensifies Ahead of 2027

The disagreement comes as opposition parties face mounting pressure to unite behind a single presidential candidate to improve their chances of defeating the APC.

The ADC has been positioning itself as a major opposition platform, while the NDC ticket featuring Obi and Kwankwaso has rejected suggestions that it should step aside for another party.

The dispute highlights the difficulty of building a united opposition front, with disagreements over candidates, political strategy and leadership continuing to shape discussions ahead of the election.

With the 2027 polls approaching, the question of whether opposition parties can resolve their differences and agree on a common strategy remains a major issue in Nigeria’s political landscape.
