Nigerian businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his public show of support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, questioning the governor’s decision to align with the President following the state’s governorship election.

Fayose expressed his displeasure in a social media post, claiming that 29 people died during the Osun election and that their families were left to mourn their loved ones.

He questioned why Adeleke would celebrate with Tinubu weeks after the election, arguing that the governor should be mindful of the sacrifices allegedly made by his supporters.

According to Fayose, the people of Osun stood firmly behind Adeleke during the election, making the governor’s subsequent political alignment with Tinubu difficult for him to understand.

He also criticised Adeleke’s explanation that his support for the President was partly influenced by their shared Yoruba identity.

Fayose argued that ethnic affiliation should not be the primary consideration in political decisions, particularly when the lives and interests of citizens are involved.

His comments followed Adeleke’s public declaration of support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition at the inauguration of the President’s 2027 campaign council in Abuja on October 14.

At the event, the governor pledged to work towards Tinubu’s re-election and was seen dancing alongside the President, drawing attention on social media.

Adeleke, who won the August 15 Osun governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, has explained that his support for Tinubu is based on their shared regional identity and his desire to see federal infrastructure projects in the South-West completed.

The governor has also denied claims that his support for the President resulted from a political agreement between them.

Fayose’s remarks have added to the political debate surrounding Adeleke’s decision to support a presidential candidate from a different political party ahead of the 2027 general election.

However, the claim that 29 people died during the Osun election remains an allegation and should not be treated as independently established fact.
