Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he advised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to present his Certificate of Return to President Bola Tinubu following his victory in the 2026 governorship election.

Wike disclosed this while speaking about his recent meeting with Adeleke, who visited him in Abuja shortly after meeting President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Adeleke secured re-election in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election and subsequently received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to Wike, he encouraged Adeleke to take the certificate to President Tinubu as a gesture of respect and to acknowledge the President’s role in the democratic process.

The FCT minister said Adeleke’s decision to meet Tinubu after the election should not necessarily be interpreted through the lens of party politics, stressing the importance of maintaining relationships across political divides.

Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, while the All Progressives Congress fielded Bola Oyebamiji as its candidate.

The governor’s post-election engagements with Tinubu and Wike have attracted political attention, particularly amid ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party who currently serves in President Tinubu’s administration, has continued to advocate political cooperation across party lines while maintaining his influence in Rivers State and the wider national political space.
