The Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) has been named Africa’s Best Exchange at the Euromoney Markets Awards 2026, earning recognition for its contributions to financial market infrastructure, digital innovation and capital formation.

The award was presented at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London on Thursday, October 15, in recognition of the group’s achievements in developing the capital market during 2025.

The recognition comes amid strong growth in Nigeria’s equities market and increased efforts to expand access to investment opportunities through technology-driven platforms.

One of the initiatives highlighted is NGX Invest, the group’s electronic platform designed to make it easier for investors to subscribe to public offers and rights issues.

The platform played a significant role in Nigeria’s banking sector recapitalization exercise, facilitating more than ₦2.8 trillion in capital raising. By September 2026, its distribution network had expanded to more than 180 channels, including stockbroking firms, banks and fintech companies. Investors can also subscribe to public offers through a dedicated WhatsApp channel.

Nigeria’s stock market recorded notable gains in 2025, with the NGX All-Share Index rising by 51.19 per cent. Equities turnover increased by 109.48 per cent to ₦5.96 trillion, while market capitalization reached ₦99.38 trillion.

The positive performance has continued into 2026. As of October 16, the All-Share Index had risen by 59.07 per cent since the beginning of the year. Equities turnover stood at ₦7.82 trillion, representing a 73.78 per cent increase from ₦4.50 trillion recorded during the corresponding period in 2025. Market capitalization also climbed to ₦160.73 trillion.

Commenting on the recognition, NGX Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Temi Popoola, said the award reflected the organization’s commitment to strengthening the technology and infrastructure that support investment and capital formation.

He acknowledged the contributions of regulators, policymakers, listed companies, investors, stockbrokers and other market participants to the development of Nigeria’s capital market.

Popoola added that the group would continue working to broaden digital access to investment opportunities, improve market efficiency and strengthen connections with other African markets.

Beyond technology and market access, NGX Group is also pursuing sustainable finance through its Net-Zero Programme, known as N-Zero. Implemented with DEG Impulse gGmbH and Africa Foresight Group, the initiative supports Nigerian businesses in improving climate readiness, setting science-based emissions-reduction targets and developing transition plans that could help them access climate-aligned financing.

The programme has engaged more than 50 companies, with 19 joining its community.

The group is also working to improve post-trade operations and regional market connectivity. Nigeria adopted a T+1 settlement cycle in June 2026, reducing the time required to settle eligible securities transactions. Engagements with other African exchanges are also intended to encourage cross-border investment and strengthen links between regional capital markets.

The latest award adds to NGX Group’s efforts to position Nigeria’s capital market as a more accessible, efficient and competitive destination for investment across Africa.
