Nigerian gospel singer Laolu Gbenjo has appealed to the public to stop spreading unverified claims about the death of his colleague, Toluwanisings, warning that the controversy should not spiral into a situation similar to the one that followed the death of singer Mohbad.

Gbenjo made the appeal on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of the late gospel minister in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Describing Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, as a kind-hearted man and a devoted Christian, Gbenjo said his colleague deserved to be remembered for his faith and service to God rather than becoming the centre of online speculation.

The singer expressed frustration over discussions on social media, particularly TikTok and Instagram, where claims about the circumstances surrounding Toluwanisings’ death have continued to circulate.

“Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop,” Gbenjo said, urging those spreading information online to exercise restraint.

Death Controversy Continues to Grow

Toluwanisings died on October 14, 2026, and his death has since generated public concern, with questions raised about the circumstances surrounding his final hours.

The controversy has been further fuelled by disagreements between his widow and members of his paternal family over his burial arrangements.

Some members of the family have called for an investigation into his death before the burial takes place, while concerns have also been raised about reported attempts to secure medical attention for him before he died.

However, claims circulating on social media should not be treated as established facts without credible evidence or findings from the relevant authorities.

Gbenjo’s warning comes as calls grow for restraint and sensitivity in discussions about the late singer.

Woli Agba, Dele Omo Woli Threaten Legal Action

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Through their solicitors, the entertainers described the allegations against them as false and defamatory, warning members of the public against publishing or circulating such claims.

The developments have added another dimension to the growing controversy surrounding the late gospel singer’s death.

As the family continues to mourn, Gbenjo’s message is that unverified allegations and online speculation should not overshadow Toluwanisings’ life, faith and legacy.
